The Five Basic Principles of Emotional Fitness

  1. Each exercise is designed on a sliding scale of interaction. For some people, just taking one mindful breath is plenty, for others, they’re ready to dive more deeply. 

  2. Just like in physical fitness, the key is consistency, so your exercises will come in a variety of styles to invite ongoing engagement. 

  3. Like in physical fitness, talking and reading about exercise is not the same as exercising. Same with emotional fitness. It’s interactive. 

  4. Engaging the imagination is crucial, otherwise it can feel like too much, and resistance kicks in. 

  5. This is about being a gentle detective, finding what works without finger pointing or shame - saturated in loving kindness.
